Tuesday, July 12 | 6pm / BOOK LAUNCH: Indian Summer Festival Presents When Morning Comes: Youth of the Soweto Uprising Tradewind Books launches 'When Morning Comes', a novel by Arushi Raina - a powerful emerging literary talent. Told fromt he perspective of four diverse youth during the Soweto uprising in Apartheid South Africa, the book explores the roots of the uprising and the edifice of Apartheid about to explore. The evening includes a presentation by South African journalist and photographer Laurence Boxall and a reading by the author herself, Arushi Raina. This dinner uses the Christian spiritual year and its ancient concepts to help you deepen your own spirituality, learn new spiritual practices, and share insights. You don't need to know anything about the Christian spiritual framework beforehand nor do you need to be anything other than curious about working with a spiritual tradition to gain your own insights and knowledge. There will be elements of interfaith pieces and connections throughout the year. Wednesday, July 27 | 6pm / The Beehive Design Collective & Test Their Logic Presents: Art of Resistance Tour V. 2 The Beehive Design Collective and Test Their Logik will again hit the road for a cross-Canada tour entitled "Art of Resistance, vol. 2" this summer. We'll be combining storytelling and presentations of our newest masterpiece MesoAmérica Resiste! with hip-hop performances and shows, offering a wide range of workshops, and connecting with environmental and social justice movements across these lands. We'll be travelling with giant art murals, a distro of activist art and literature, and stories, songs, and experiences to share. Thursday, July 28 | 7pm / Killjoy Karaoke! Join Killjoy, an organization working to create spaces of resistance and celebration for queer and trans Indigenous, people of colour, and mixed race folks. Come out for their karaoke night fundraiser, with all funds going to support Killjoy Fest in August! All ages, all genders, and allies welcome! |
