Communications and Marketing coordinator (Summer Student Position)
Looking to use your communications, design and social media skills to support a community hub for social justice and the arts? Heartwood is a queer-inclusive social justice hub, arts events and community restaurant with a mission to nourish the spirit of social justice and liberation. Located in the Mt Pleasant neighbourhood, our café serves local food and is funded by the United Church to also offer inclusive spiritual programming.
We are seeking a student with strong communications, social media and design skills to help us promote the work of Heartwood. The bulk of this work will focus on the Heartwood project, with a secondary project that would include working on the redesign of the Trinity United church website and other short communications projects.
Responsibilities:
· Writing and updating web content
· Writing and content for enewsletters in Constant Contact and Mail Chimp
· Creation of collateral including flyers, brochures, posters, event calendars, etc
· Writing content for and management of our social media feeds including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
· Acting as the “face” of Heartwood at community events such as the Queer Film fest, CarFree Days, Folk fest, etc.
· Creating and executing social media marketing and outreach events for key events, for the restaurant features at Heartwood,
and for promoting Heartwood as an events space
· Photo documentation of Heartwood events and food offerings
· Assistance with signage, and other communications elements of the café
· Surveys and evaluations of the communications and visual identity elements of Heartwood so we can incorporate feedback
Desired skills:
· Strong writing skills
· Comfort with Weebly web design interface
· Experience creating and executing social media campaigns
· Graphic Design skills an asset
· Photography skills are an asset
· Awareness of and sensitivity to issues around gender, diversity, racism, access and oppression (and a willingness to learn)
· Self-starter, positive attitude, reliable
Details
Length of term: 10 weeks
Number of hours a week: 30 hours, includes some evenings and weekends.
Rate of pay: $13-15 an hour based on experience
Starting and end date: June 13, 2016 - August 15, 2016

(d) are a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;
(e) are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and
Refugee Protection Act* and;
(f) are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
*According to the HRDC grant, the person hired on to this role must have citizenship status. This unfortunately means that we are not able to hire international students and people without status. Heartwood is otherwise a space open for people of all backgrounds, regardless of status.
